In order to support our Science topic (caring for animals) we had a visit from Zoolab. They brought a variety of animals; African snail, African millipede, corn-snake, rat and a tree frog. We got the chance to hold the different minibeasts and we also learnt lots of facts about caring for them. Did you know that a corn-snake has no eye lids?
This week we celebrated book week. We took part in a number of exciting events. We had a story time evening after school where we all got to wear our Pjs and listen to stories. We had a visit from an author and a librarian. We dressed up as our favourite book characters and we also created stories in a jar. Our focus book for the week was 'The Gingerbread man,' so we created our very own delicious gingerbread men and then wrote some instructions based on this. We also invited our parents into class to read to us and we also paired up with our Year 4 buddies for more story telling. It was such a brilliant week and we all loved it! Check out our pictures below.
Felt making for The Great Fire of London
Our topic is The Great Fire of London. As part of an art project we worked in pairs to create some felt to represent some of the flames which caused this historic event. We used lots of new techniques where we had to layer the wool and fuse it together using soap and water. If was a long, messy process but it was lots of fun! Check out some of our pictures below.
Little Angel Gets Her Wings
In December all of the children in year 2 took part in our Christmas production which was called Little Angel gets her wings. It tells the Christmas story but through the eyes of one of the angels. Little angel is desperate to get her wings and in the end she receives these by giving the best gift of all to others, love. The children were amazing and we are all so proud of them! Next step the West End! Check out some of our pictures below.
Choose Respect Week
As part of choose respect week we carried out a variety of activities. We used the analogy of a tube of toothpaste to help us to understand that unkind words cannot be taken back. We also looked at what we should do to be a good friend to others and how we can respect our friends and give them compliments. We all thought of way that we could show respect, for example, listening to other people or using our manners. We created a display to show how year 2 can grow respect.
During the month of November we spent two weeks focusing on Remembrance. We carried out a variety of activities during this time. We wrote in role as a soldier who was sat in trenches, we listened to the poem in Flanders fields and we created some art work inspired by this.
