Sports Premium 2013 - 2014

For the academic year 2013 – 2014 we have used our additional funding in the following ways:

  • Employing a specialist PE teacher to work alongside teachers to increase their subject knowledge and confidence in PE. A cluster of Didsbury schools have bought into the services of a PE consultant. For us this is for one day per week. Mr Callaghan works on a rolling programme of staff training and support over the academic year. He provides intensive training for our NQTs and staff new to the school as a priority.
  • Mr Callaghan provides additional after school provision, encouraging  and  providing places   for those least active pupils.
  • Buying into existing specialist local sports networks e,g, Oisins Gaelic Football for KS2 on Thursday mornings. Manchester Waconians  Lacrosse  programme for Years 5 & 6.
  • Continuing links with The Barlow High school to provide PE and sports provision.
  • Providing training for  midday supervisors to improve playground games at lunchtimes

FIT FOR LIFE

This September saw the launch of our first "Fit for Life" initiative.  The club is funded using money from the Sports Premium allocation, and is run by the school's Physical Education consultant, Mr Callaghan.

Throughout the year we intend to invite students throughout Key Stages 1 & 2.  Currently in the Autumn Term we are working with Years 3 & 4.  At the club pupils experience a wide range of fun and inclusive activities which are designed to improve fundamental movements skills, core sports skills, activity specific fitness and general fitness for a healthy active life.

Whilst the club is open to all children we particularly welcome children who perhaps need that little bit of a extra help with their physical development.

The club is on Monday afternoons straight after school.  There are currently 21 children from years 3 & 4 on roll.
