Homework and Spellings
Each night, Year Six pupils are expected to read at home. Every week, the children will come home with a 'take home book' which comes with a guidance bookmark for parents consisting of comprehension questions. We would appreciate it if you could sign the reading diary weekly.
We ask that the children themselves record their daily reading into their reading record each day, recording the book name/page number and a sentence or two to summarise what they have read.
Guidance on how to use reading records effectively is glued into each child's reading reading record.
Homework is given out three times a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This consists of five maths questions and five Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar questions. We ask that the children complete their homework into their homework books and then bring them into school so that they can mark them.
Weekly spellings are given out on a Friday. They are usually tested in school in dictation form (putting the spelling words into sentences/paragraphs and including corresponding punctation too)- this is on a Friday also.
Times Tables Rock Stars
Times tables form the basis of a great deal of Year Six mathematical learning and therefore it is vital that the children know their times tables and related division facts quickly and off-by-heart. Your child can practice on Times Table Rock Stars using the website or the app. Each child has their own login which they should have recorded in their reading record.
