About Forest School
St Catherine's are excited to be offering Forest School sessions to our children. A focus of these sessions is to use the outdoors as a learning environment.
The government are encouraging schools to support children in becoming independent, resilient learners. Forest Schools allows opportunities for children to experience learning in a new and exciting way.
It develops:
- understanding of emotions
- interaction with peers
- self-confidence and self-belief
- perseverance, resilience and a sense of belonging
The principles of Forest Schools
'Forest Schools is an inspirational process that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve, develop confidence and self esteem, through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees'
Currently we offer two sessions a week for children in KS2 (Years 3-6).
What do children need for Forest School?
The children will need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing. This should be old tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt with a sweatshirt. They will need to have a water-proof jacket and appropriate footwear, preferably wellies or walking boots.
