RSHE and PSHE
‘I have come that you might have life and have it to the full.’ (John 10:10)
RSHE (Relationships, Health and Sex Education)
The DfE guidance states that “children and young people need knowledge and skills that will enable them to make informed and ethical decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships”. RSHE is a carefully sequenced, statutory curriculum that teaches children how to build healthy relationships, stay safe, understand their bodies, and look after their physical and mental wellbeing. It brings together Relationships Education, Health Education, and (in Year 6) non‑statutory Sex Education into one integrated programme. Our Life to the Full curriculum map shows how this learning is planned progressively from EYFS to Year 6 (see below). Further details can be found in our RSHE Policy, which is located under the Policies section of the school website.
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education)
PSHE is a broader, non‑statutory subject that supports children’s personal development, emotional literacy, citizenship, and understanding of the wider world. It includes elements such as economic wellbeing, community participation, and personal responsibility. At St Catherine's, PSHE and RSHE complement one another, with RSHE forming the statutory core and PSHE enriching pupils’ wider personal development.
